A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MONDAY CLUB
The Monday Club in San Luis Obispo, California was designed by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan and constructed in 1933-1934. Julia Morgan designed the clubhouse to resemble a garden gazebo with an interior awning over the stage area.
The club itself is a non profit organization founded in 1925. By 1928, the club members numbered over 350 and were in need of a clubhouse. Through fundraising, they were able to purchase the property on Monterey Street in 1930. At that time, Miss Morgan was working with William Randolph Hearst on the design and construction of San Simeon castle. She agreed to to design the building.
En lieu of charging professional fees Miss Morgan asked if the membership would arrange for her room and board when she came to San Luis Obispo. Club members were delighted to help and took turns welcoming Miss Morgan into their homes.
RECEPTION AREAS AND GUESTS THAT CAN BE ACCOMMODATED
The Great Room: Historic open ceiling trusses and original hardwood floors are the centerpiece of the Great Room which features seating capacity of 175 (theater style: includes chairs only) or 125 people (banquet style: includes tables and chairs). An elevated stage provides the perfect rostrum for guest of honor or a band.
Dining Facilities: The great room can accommodate sit-down indoor dining for 92 guests. The garden can provide additional seating space for about 50 guests.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
- Tables and chairs are included in your rental fee. They are kept on site and can be set up for you.
- You may select the caterer of your choice. Bringing in a Trailered BBQ Grill or Mobile Outdoor Pizza Oven is okay too.
- Sunroom Fireplace: $100 fee.
- Grand Piano: $100 fee. Pianist must be approved prior to event and Tenant shall only use the piano tuner approved by the Monday Club.
- On-site kitchen makes it easy for caterers to have everything they need.
