Shell Beach Engagement Session

There’s this cute little spot, just outside of Pismo Beach where I love to take pictures. The Shell Beach tidepools are one of my favorite places to go for engagement photos. I think you’ll agree that this is the perfect little hidden gem right on the beach!

Couples love the location because of the variety of backgrounds available and the easy access from the 101. I love it because, well, what’s not to love! This place is amazing!

On The Beach

We started out on the sandy area of the beach. Danny and Leanna were having a blast hanging out with each other and just overall being in love. They needed very little from me and they really made my job rather easy with how happy they are together. They are naturals when it comes to photos and they easily followed the few prompts I gave them.

Fun Beach Engagement Photos

One of my favorite things to do with couples is have them play games with each other. This make is seem more like fun and less like a stuffy photoshoot. It’s a great way to get those natural smiles. It also really helps me get a feel for how couples interact with each other and respond to what they other is doing.

A New Look


After a quick change of clothes, we walked just a few yards down the beach to get a whole new look. This area of the beach is where the tide pools are and at low tide, it offers quite the view. The clouds could not have been more perfect and the waves were just the right distance from the shore.

The cliffs give way to this beautiful, rocky layer where the waves wash away the sand every day. This creates a beautiful beachy feel without any sand at all! Sea creature live here in abundance and it’s so fun for couples to explore the area and see all that the tide pools have to offer.

We ended the engagement session on the stairs leading back up to the grassy park overlooking the beach. Overall, I’d call this engagement session a smashing success. Danny and Leanna had a lot of fun with each other and I got to know them before their wedding later this year. What a wonderful day with an amazing couple! I can hardly wait for their wedding!
